While my studio is always an option—perfect for any season and completely weather-proof—I also enjoy taking portraits on location, whether it’s in nature, an urban setting, or somewhere completely unexpected. 1. Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve (Jefferson, SD)
📍 Location: About 20 minutes north of Sioux City
🌿 Best Seasons: Spring & Fall
This nature preserve is a hidden gem with tall grass, wooded areas, historic barns, and scenic walking paths. I’ve mostly photographed at the entrance, but even that area is breathtaking. If you love country vibes and natural beauty, this is a great choice!
2. Downtown Sioux City (Urban & Street Vibes)
📍 Location: Various spots throughout downtown

If you’re looking for an edgy, urban feel, downtown Sioux City offers so many great spots:

• Historic 4th Street for classic city portraits with brick buildings

3. Rose Garden at Grandview Park

The Rose Garden is a seasonal dream! When the flowers are in bloom, it creates a soft, romantic atmosphere perfect for senior sessions, engagements, or family portraits.
4. Sixth Street & Cherry Blossoms
📍 Location: Sioux City, IA
🌸 Best Seasons: Spring (April-May)
This area has gorgeous buildings and a hidden pathway under a bridge, but the real highlight is the cherry blossoms. In peak bloom (typically April or May), these trees add an incredible pop of color to any portrait.
5. Stone State Park

🌿 Best Seasons: Year-round
Stone State Park has wooded trails, rolling hills, tall grass, and rustic wooden steps. It’s perfect for families, seniors, and anyone who loves a nature-inspired setting.
6. Sergeant Bluff’s Autumn Patch
📍 Location: Sergeant Bluff, IA
🍂 Best Season: Fall (October)
This small, tucked-away area explodes with warm autumn colors in peak season, making it perfect for family and senior portraits.
7. Sunflower Fields (Akron, IA & Pumpkin Patch Locations)
📍 Location: Various spots in Siouxland
🌻 Best Season: Late Summer (August-September)
I’ve taken sunflower portraits at a local pumpkin patch, but I’m excited to try a dedicated sunflower farm in Akron, IA soon! These fields create a dreamy, golden-hour look—ideal for seniors, couples, and even maternity sessions.
8. Lewis & Clark State Park (Onawa, IA)

This park has walking paths, wooded trails, and even a small beach area for unique portraits. While it’s great year-round, fall is absolutely the best time to go for vibrant foliage and scenic backdrops.
